Below is an account of a TLM’s Fighting Chance instructor, Taylor Lovrien, who flew from Minnesota to Orlando 5 years ago to become a certified instructor of our system. Instructor Certification is a 40 hour, comprehensive program that teaches our defensive tactics against all manner of armed, and unarmed assaults and threats against single or multiple armed assailants. Taylor met Jenn, his current girlfriend and her daughter, Briana while going through the program. He brought Jenn in as his test student. She picked it up very quickly as well and then brought her 11 year old daughter in to train as well. Both Jenn and Bri have been and are featured in many of our video clips.

As I’ve responded many times, I’ve never needed, wanted or asked for anyone to survive a violent encounter just to validate the weapons disarming system developed by my son, Thomas Lee Moldovan ( whom the system is named after ) and myself. Every instructor of our system, devotes 100% to making TLM’s Fighting Chance Defensive Tactics, the most effective REALITY BASED self defense system available today. The below account is testimony of a frightening, armed encounter with two thugs threatening to kill Instructor Lovrien for his truck keys and cash.

Note: The kids, 6’4 Taylor is talking about, were teen gang bangers. The one armed was estimated by Taylor to be about 6’2. You’ll note Taylor did many things right because he survived by disarming the bad guy. But the one thing and most critical thing done wrong, was to be distracted on the phone in an unknown and unsafe area. Awareness and Avoidance are the 2 most critically important conditions to exercise and train for.

Recount of the assault

I am working as an insurance adjuster in St Louis, MO. With all the recent storms we have been extremely busy working day and night. I go to some pretty bad neighborhoods to investigate damage. On 05/26/2011 I finished scoping a claim in a rough part of the city. I let my guard down for a minute, I was talking on the phone while making sure that my ladder was locked up. When I turned around i was surprised to see 2 kids pointing a gun at me. They demanded my keys and wallet. As I reached for them the guy with the gun got in close pressing the small framed pistol against my face telling me that I was a dead man. All I could think of was that I would not see my loved ones again. At that point the I felt my only option was to fight for my life. The gun was small so I went for the wrist with my left hand pulling the gun over my right sholder while palm striking him under the chin as I pulled him in. (SLAP TO SHOULDER TRAP)

The gun flew out of his hand. With his arm still trapped I used my leverage (PALM HEEL STRIKE TO CHIN) to slam his head into the street. I turned to take on the other guy but he was already running. I quickly got into my truck and got out of there. The adrenaline was going so hard I had a hard time speaking. As soon as I could I contacted the police and filed a report with the St Louis County Police Department, file #11-30189. I have no doubt that TLM’s Fighting Chance Combat Systems saved my life. The countless hours and repetition helped me to react the way that I did and gave me the tools to come out on top. I take no pleasure in hurting another person and I can’t explain what it was like to be in that situation. Words simply can’t explain it. Since then I have had to relive the event every night in my dreams and I can’t make it go away. I am still working in that area and have been extremely alert and aware of my surroundings. Thanks again for teaching me your system.

NOTE FROM CHIEF INSTRUCTOR MOLDOVAN:

Instructor Lovrien is a formidable looking, athletically built young man who stands 6’4″.

Probably weighing in at around 200 lbs.

Most people would look at him and think, “not someone to mess with.”

Remember : An armed predator, no matter what age, size, or sex, always thinks the weapon is the equalizer and more powerful than the prey he chooses.

Also remember that the bad guy always picks time and place. Even if you ARE ARMED, the predator seldom gives the intended victim opportunity to deploy the weapon. It’s the element of surprise and terror that they count on to make their dirty work ugly and fast.

Train Body and Brain first. All other weapons are accessories and must be available and in hand to be of any use.

I’m often asked by gun toting skeptics,” How good”s your stuff against my gun? “

My reply, as I quickly stop my eye jab inches from surprised and wide eyes is, ” Where’s your gun now?”

I finish the statement with,” and what makes you think I can’t shoot? “
